A philanthropy center has come to refer to a premier destination for the celebration of donors and the many ways that an organization has benefited from philanthropy. While careful evaluation should be taken to determine just the right types of displays and communication, through the effort, a fundraising institution tells their story, reinforces their brand, depicts their "face" of philanthropy, communicates opportunities to give, and fosters enhanced giving by current donors and new donors alike, by imparting the importance of philanthropy as a core value of the fundraising institution.

In a recent survey of GEAC members, who are responsible for fundraising and communication efforts at the state’s colleges and universities, we learned a lot about methods and attitudes related to non facility-based gift recognition. By that term I mean, gifts aimed at named chairs, professorships and scholarships as opposed to those that name a room or building.

The results reveal a very large discrepancy between how often facility-based namings are publicly recognized when compared to non facility-based giving. This is not right and really makes no sense in today’s economy.
