Presenting “Linkage” to AFP-Atlanta

May 25th, 2010

Here in Atlanta, the local chapter of AFP has asked that presenters at their monthly breakfast meetings to speak to fundraising’s new normal, which Roger McNamee refers to as “great opportunities at a time of great risk”. We spoke to the group on May 18.

Our focus, as always was new thinking about thanking. For years, we have extolled the benefits of looking at Donor Recognition as a proactive partner in fundraising and stewardship. In fact, donor recognition is the most under-utilized communication tool available to the fundraiser. Beyond thanking existing donors, with careful planning of content, it will serve as a 24/7 advocate for your mission and motivate greater giving, thereby transmitting a culture of philanthropy throughout the organization.

Our premise that morning: the key to donor recognition success is the linkage of messages across all recognition venues. Donor recognition has expanded beyond traditional donor walls and plaques to include digital interactive displays, customized print, direct mail, web-based media, and social media. We urged attendees to take full advantage of these opportunities now using the unique ideas set forth in presentation available here.
